Jim Weaver

Best known for his intensely colorful and light-filled watercolors of local subjects and flora, renowned painter JimWeaver has been a professional artist for 35 years.  Longtime resident of Oroville, Jim has traveled and shown his work throughout the western states.

Fascinated by art and drawing from an early age, Jim has long been called to artistry. Early on he was influenced by the works of Winslow Homer, Vincent Van Gogh, Andrew Wyeth and, later, Charles Burchfield.  Kenneth R. Watson, his college professor, had a major influence on his style.

In recent years, Jim has begun exploring an interest in depicting human emotion and drama in oil and watercolor in a style that is just beyond realism.  The medium of oil allows for great flexibility when painting the human form and depicting moods and emotions.  Jim is using this medium more and more.

Jim has exhibited in scores of solo and group shows over the years as well as in numerous regional, national and international juried competitions. He has earned awards from many of them including Third Award for “Future Tense” at Aquarius 2007, a regional west coast show in southern California.   His work is in corporate collections, including the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Capital Consultants of Portland, Oregon and Columbia Falls Aluminum Company of Montana.  Many hundreds of private collectors proudly display Jim’s work in their homes and offices.  He has been Vice-President of the North Okanogan Valley Arts Association and has been written up in many local and regional arts publications.
